Annual General Meeting Cyfarfod Blynyddol – 9:30 -10:30 a.m. – Bellevue Room

The annual general meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. We want to hear from you. This is your opportunity to ask questions, put forward ideas and get involved in the organization. We value your participation! A financial report will be provided and the slate of officers presented. If you are passionate about keeping the festival alive, consider volunteering for the Board. We need new members and fresh ideas.

Seminar 1 – A Personal History of Wales

In this talk, Anastasia Llewellyn weaves tales of her recent travels to Wales into a discussion of Welsh culture and history, through a selection of Welsh-themed objects which each hold special meaning to her. From family history to fashion, via music and sports, these objects reflect Anastasia’s journey as a Welsh learner, as well as her academic research.

Seminar 2 – Welsh Women’s Peace Petition 1923/4 to Today

A pre-recorded talk with Ann Griffith and Eirlys Barker. In July 2017 Ann received a message from her sister in Wales asking that she go to the Smithsonian to verify that collection 34965 was really the Peace Petition from 390,296 Women of Wales sent to the women of the US in 1924.

Seminar 3 – Welsh Traditional Music: a beginner’s guide

Saturday 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Bellevue South
Sunday 10:30 a.m. Martello Room (limited seating)

Created and narrated by Rhodri McDonagh, Welsh fiddler, vocalist and composer. This video takes you on a short fascinating journey through the history and evolution of Welsh Traditional Music.You will also learn about traditional Welsh musical instruments as well as the structure and sounds of Welsh tunes. On Saturday, Siân Thomas will lead a discussion and Q&A on the history of Welsh music after the video. On Sunday morning, the video will be replayed with no discussion.

Cinema Wales – Sinema Cymru – Bellevue Room South

Poet Rhys Iorwerth travels Wales and beyond to discuss and celebrate the Welsh poetry scene. The documentary includes new poems along with interviews with many of the most prominent poets in Wales today. (90 minutes)

The Story of Slate Saturday, 3:15 – 3:45 p.m. Bellevue South,
Sunday, 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Martello Rm (limited seating)

The story of the Welsh slate industry with a visit to the National Slate Museum in Llanberis. Quarrying slate was a brutal business, and extremely dangerous. Despite the hardships , the slate industry created a unique culture of poetry, music and song in the Welsh language.

Kingston Bus Tour Taith Bws – 12:15 – 5:00 p.m.

History, Hops, and a Hint of Britain. The bus tour starts with a visit to the Kingston Penitentiary to explore over 180 years of Canadian history inside this world-renowned maximum-security prison. Learn about life behind the walls, the people who lived and worked here, and the unique architecture that makes this site a national landmark. Next stop?  A cheeky pit stop at British Pride Bakery to grab a few tasty British treats before cruising back to enjoy some dining and drinks (choose off menu at your own cost) at a local establishment –The Buckle! A well-earned refreshment to wet your whistle 🍻 History, hops, and a hint of Britain — what’s not to love?
