The 2023 tour, Ottawa with a Welsh Flavour was a fascinating tour of all things Welsh. We saw many of the important historic sights of Ottawa but with special emphasis on Welsh settlers, personalities and connections. It included a stop to tour Rideau Hall, official residence of The Governor General of Canada. Two of Canada’s past Governors General have interesting Welsh connections.

The tour material was extensively researched by David Jeanes, past president of Heritage Ottawa and a member of the Ottawa Welsh Society executive, whose family came from South Wales and who has spent much time throughout Wales learning about his roots. David was our guide and he imparted a wealth of information about the important role the Welsh have played in the history of Ottawa.
