Meinir Richards

Born in Whitland, Meinir attended Whitland Grammar School before studying Music at Bangor University. Her teaching career began in Maesteg, before being Head of Music for fifteen years at Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr. Following five years of working with the Welsh Joint Education Committee in Cardiff, she returned to the classroom, and has now been Head of Music at Ysgol Bro Myrddin for almost eleven years. She is delighted to note that Sioned, Matthew and Elan are past pupils of hers. As well as competing successfully on an annual basis at the Urdd Eisteddfod with the school, her school choirs perform regularly at concerts. Due to the fact that she is adjudicating at the Urdd Eisteddfod this year, rather than compete at the Urdd, the school will be staging a St David’s Gala Concert at the Lyric Theatre with the well-known singer/songwriter Huw Chiswell as guest artist.

Meinir thoroughly enjoys conducting ‘Côr Llanddarog’, and the choir have recently been busy preparing for their first cd, an experience which Meinir found to be different to competing, but nevertheless equally stressful! The CD was released at the beginning of December, and various tracks from the CD are now heard regularly on Radio Cymru.
